EvolutionSkatepark.Co.Uk Interview Questions

1. What is your full name and age?
Austin Daniel Paz and I'm 19.

2. How old were you when you first started skating?
I was 8 when I started.

3. What got you into it?
My older brother got me into skating. I used to see him and his friends skate, then I started tagging along.

4. What is the worst injury you've had in rolling?
Nothing really bad in particular. I've broken my wrists and ankles, thats it. I guess the ankle injuries were the worst because they take so long to heal.

5. What do you think the best music to roll to is?
For me, it's whatever I'm in the mood for at the time. Rage Against The Machine gets you mad amped. And a lot of hip hop just flows good and puts you in a good mood.

6. What does skating mean to you?
Skatings the illest thing in the world to me. Its me chilling with my boys having a good time, doing what we love to do. I think that anyone who skates, their life is way more unique than anyone else they hang out with that doesnt. they get to travel the world, meet different people, see different things.

7. What were the best pair of skates that you've had?
The best pair of skates are the ones I'm riding now which are Valos. They're so solid, fast and the grooves on them are the best locking out of any skate I ever rode before. And they're by far the best looking skates to have on your feet.

8. What’s your best trick landed?
Ha I don't think I can answer this question.

9. What’s your favorite skate park?
This cement park in Park city, Utah. I rather skate that place over all of Woodward or any other park. I strongly urge anyone whos in that area to check that place out. That place is huge and has everything.

10. Where’s your favorite skate spot in the world?
This may sound funny, but I think my favorite spot in the world that I've been to is probably this small bank to rail called Rachaels Place in Rochester, NY. Its not a crazy spot you can go nuts on or film on but its the most fun thing ever. It's a tiny bank thats probably a foot or foot and a half high to a shin high rail.

11. Who most inspires you in the industry right now?
Honestly, the people that inspire me most now in the industry are the people I skate with all the time. For years I've been skating with Fish and Franco, but also a lot lately with the Kelsos and when we've been filming for our video called The Truth this past summer, they were all really motivating sessions. I've been so pumped about skating now by watching all our footage and just chilling with these guys.

12. What teams have you been with?
All the sponsors I had are the ones I have now, Valo, Able, Bunique, Eulogy. I was kinda riding flow for USD for a little while but they only sent me one pair of skates and was never anything more than that really.

13. What is your own personal skating motto?
MAKE ROLLERBLADING LOOK GOOD.

14. Roughly, how many hours a week do you spend skating?
I usually do most of my skating on the weekends and maybe like once or twice during the week on occasion. So maybe around..........15-20.

15. To you, what is the biggest enemy the industry has at the moment?
Probably the lack of mainstream support in rollerblading. I guess it's because skateboarding's so huge and trendy now that these mainstream sponsors don't want to deal with us.

16. What is the first memory you have of skating?
Of skating in general, probably the first time I seen my brother skate. Him and his friends were cruising around the block going mad fast. That inspired me to start skating.

17. Do you have any lucky accessories, clothes?
No I'm not superstitious like that at all.

18. Would you be willing to help in "What The Pros Are Up To" section of the skatepark's podcast by sending some new material in every week of just a few skate spots or maybe even a video clip detailing every week?
If I had time to.

19. What messages do you have for all the people out there who want to start skating or are just beginning? As well as those more experienced?
Have as much fun as you can skating, because it'll probably be the best times of your life.

Thanks for the interview Austin! And good luck with The Truth.
